About our Clinical Director and Founder

CY&A Psychology is a small practice of like-minded, experienced CAMHS clinicians.

CY&A Psychology is a small, specialist practice of experienced CAMHS clinicians who are passionate about working with young people.

I set up the practice over 15 years ago with a simple aim: to offer high-quality, evidence-based therapy that feels personal, flexible, and genuinely supportive. I wanted to create a service focused on young people without the rigid age cut-offs that often separate child and adult mental health services.

I believe young people do best when they’re able to move through therapy at their own pace, with the option to return for support as new challenges and transitions arise in early adulthood.

I’m really proud of the range of therapies we offer and the skill and care of our team. We share a strong commitment to evidence-based practice and a genuine dedication to supporting young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

What our clients have said...

As a teenage boy suffering from anxiety it was a very hard time, however having someone that could not only help, but also give me the ability to help myself was amazing. Clare gave me strategies to cope and get back to being the confident teenager I am now. I can’t thank her enough.

I am so grateful for my sessions with Nicola and the confidence they have given me to tackle my year abroad! Her guidance was absolutely invaluable and I am incredibly happy! She was just brilliant in allowing me to set up the mechanisms to tackle every given challenge and develop the conviction to stick by what I believe. My anxiety has been low-lying since and even at times when I feel it re-surfacing, I feel greatly equipped to tackle tricky situations! I just wanted to say the biggest thank you for essentially changing my life, I cannot recommend the help I had with her enough.

We have found our interactions with Dr Kaanan to be nothing short of wonderful. She has a wonderful manner with children and an expert view of how to tackle difficulties. We have been thoroughly impressed by her patient and kind nature coupled with her experience and expertise. We would not hesitate to recommend her. Our children and family are thriving as a result of our interactions.

Great experience all round, great help with booking/admin, Dr Manners was a perfect fit, my daughter has done brilliantly and puts most of her progress down to Dr Manners. Dr Manners totally understood my daughter and from the first session had a connection, I could not recommend Dr Manners enough.

As a parent with a son suffering from anxiety for the first time it was distressing, bewildering and overwhelming. Clare helped put me and my son at ease from the very first meeting. My son has 12 sessions in total and we found them enormously helpful. As a parent, I can’t thank Clare enough- her approach was well suited to our son and the fact that we have not had to return in nearly two years speaks volumes. He still has the odd anxious moment but the strategies that Clare gave him have given him much greater resilience and self-reliance.

Pippa is very good at asking questions in a way that it’s easy to answer. It feels more like a normal conversation. She is good at understanding when to keep asking questions and when to talk about something else. A very different and more positive experience than in the past.

The team are empathic, compassionate and understanding. Stephanie has also been most accommodating and supportive, making the whole process so much easier.

I was first referred to see Clare by my Psychiatrist while experiencing episodes of depression and anxiety. Over the years I have seen a number of clinical psychologists and psychotherapists but none have had as much of a positive impact on my mental health as Clare. From the first session she created an atmosphere of trust and compassion that enabled us to explore in depth the roots of my problems while feeling completely safe and secure. She was then able to develop strategies to help me to help myself during stressful situations and circumstances. Something that has been instrumental in helping me to complete my degree.

Dr Manners is outstanding. She helped us through a difficult time with our son, with understanding, kindness and professionalism. We could not recommend her more.

Having EMDR allowed me to access my emotions from trauma and its really helped me to express my feelings.  I feel stronger now and more able to cope with future difficult situations (from a teenage client)

I brought my adolescent daughter to see Dr. Manners for a series of challenges related to school and social issues. We both greatly benefitted from the sessions. We found her sensitive, encouraging and very constructive in finding concrete solutions to the difficulties we were facing.

My teenager worked with Dr Yassin to use EMDR to help them access emotions associated with some extremely traumatic events.  Prior to EMDR they could not appreciate the enormity of what had happened and therefore continued to be unsafe.  Working with Clare, they felt highly supported and able to uncover the various emotions which has made a significant difference in their understanding of what happened to them and has made them far safer for the future.

Juspreet’s support created a truly life changing shift in our family dynamic. There is no shouting, there is calm, and my child is thriving at their new school and opening up more than ever.

FAQs

What is a child psychologist and what do they do?

A child psychologist is a qualified mental health professional who specialises in understanding and supporting the emotional, behavioural, and developmental needs of children, teenagers, and young adults. At CY&A Psychology, our clinical psychologists hold doctoral-level qualifications and bring decades of expertise in child psychology and adolescent mental health.

Unlike psychiatry, child psychology focuses on talking therapy and evidence-based psychological interventions rather than medication. Our psychologists do not prescribe medication; instead, they work collaboratively with you and your child to understand their difficulties and find the right path forward.

What mental health difficulties can you help with?

Our team of child adolescent psychologists supports a wide range of mental health problems, including anxiety, depression, low mood, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), trauma, self-harm, anger issues, behavioural difficulties, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). We also work with children and families dealing with autism, eating disorders, and challenges affecting family relationships.

Whether your child is experiencing stress at school, struggling with their emotions, or facing more complex mental health difficulties, we adapt our approach to their child’s developmental stage.

What age ranges do you work with?

We work with younger children, older children, teenagers, adolescents, and young adults, typically up to the age of 24. We deliberately avoid the rigid age boundaries that often separate child and adolescent mental health services from adult psychological services, so young people can continue their care with us as they transition into early adulthood.

Our approach is carefully adapted to suit each stage of development, ensuring children, teenagers, and young adults all feel genuinely supported throughout their time with us.

Do You Offer Online Sessions And In-Person Appointments?

We offer both online sessions and face to face sessions at our Marylebone practice in North West London. This gives families the choice to attend in a way that suits their circumstances and daily routine. Some families prefer to attend in person, while others find online sessions more practical. In both cases, the same level of care, support, and professional therapy is provided by our experienced team.

How Do I Book And Do You Work With Insurers?

You can contact our practice by phone, email, or WhatsApp to book an appointment. Our practice administrator will guide you through the process and help you arrange your first session with the right psychologist for your child.

We work with many insurers and can explain fees and payment options clearly. Our clinical director and team aim to make the process simple, clear, and focused on helping your child and family get the support they need.
