Sometimes, perhaps due to negative experiences like bullying, learning challenges at school, family factors like separation or divorce and stress, children, young people and young adults may develop some strong, unhelpful attitudes and ideas about themselves.

If self-esteem becomes low it can be difficult to appreciate and enjoy oneself and the things going on in life and it can hold us back from taking up opportunities and joining in. For young people it can make school life tough. Sometimes children describe hating themselves. Having low self-esteem is not a mental health problem as such but it can really change how you experience life and can lead to low mood and anxiety. We offer evidence-based therapy to intervene with low self-esteem and can offer parenting support to help you to help your child.
