Clinical Psychologist For Depression

Supportive, evidence-based therapy for children, adolescents and young adults experiencing low mood or persistent sadness.

At CY&A Psychology, we understand how difficult it can be to see your child or teenager struggling with depression. Some young people find it hard to put their feelings into words, while others express distress through irritability, withdrawal or changes in behaviour. Whether the symptoms are recent or ongoing, we are here to help.

Our experienced team of Clinical Psychologists offers a warm, professional and supportive service. We take time to understand the individual behind the symptoms and deliver care that is responsive to their needs, personality and developmental stage.

Personalised Psychological Care

Depression in young people can affect how they think, how they feel about themselves, and how they interact with the world around them. At times, it can impact daily life, school, friendships, and family relationships. We take a considered and careful approach to treatment, never rushing, never assuming, and always working in partnership with the child, young person and their family.

Our clinicians are trained in a range of evidence-based psychological therapies for depression, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Compassion Focused Therapy. We draw from these approaches to create an individualised plan, led by what will suit the young person best.

Depression Looks Different in Every Young Person

Some children and teenagers experiencing depression might appear flat or distant. Others may act out or become increasingly self-critical. Parents might notice changes in appetite, sleep, energy, or motivation. School performance may dip, or a young person may simply lose interest in things they once enjoyed.

Our goal is to understand these changes in the context of the young person’s life, relationships, and history. Through collaborative conversations and gentle questioning, we aim to uncover the thoughts, feelings and patterns that may be contributing to their low mood. From there, we can begin to develop helpful ways forward.

Therapy at the Right Pace

We know that starting therapy can feel unfamiliar. Our therapists work sensitively to build trust and a sense of safety. Sessions are paced carefully and adapted to suit each child or young person’s needs. We often involve parents or carers in the process, where appropriate, to help strengthen support outside of the therapy space.

We also understand that depression doesn’t always exist in isolation. Many young people we work with experience anxiety, low self-esteem or difficulties linked to past experiences. Our team is experienced in thinking about these complexities and integrating them into a wider care plan.

A Consistent, Flexible Service

Appointments are offered both online and in person at our practice in Marylebone, central London. Our townhouse provides a calm, welcoming space where young people feel at ease. Some of our clients continue to work with us through various stages of their development, returning when needed as they face new challenges or transitions. Our commitment is to provide thoughtful, informed care that makes a meaningful difference. Whether you’re seeking short-term support or longer-term input, we’re here to guide you and your child with compassion and clarity.
