It is normal for to have some worries and fears occasionally but when they start to interfere in your child’s life or your life, getting in the way of what you can do, where you can go, their friendships, your routines and home life and the fun you can have then a course of therapy may help.

We offer evidence-based therapy to treat worries, fears and phobias and anxiety disorders and we offer parenting support to help you to help your child. There is a significant body of research that suggests that for children under 10 years the outcomes of therapy delivered via the parent or carer are as good, if not better, than individual work with the child.

Generalised Anxiety Disorder

If you or your child has been diagnosed with GAD by a psychiatrist or other health professional then you may experience a lot of worries and anxiety that do not necessarily have a cause. You may even worry about worrying. You may feel anxious about things before they happen and may avoid things, like refusing to go to school.

Children may report more headaches and tummy aches and have difficulties with sleep. Children will often worry about their safety and their parent’s safety but worries can be wide ranging. We offer evidence-based therapy to treat GAD and we offer parenting support to help you to help your child.

Panic and Panic Disorder

Children and young people may experience anxiety attacks or panicky feelings or have been diagnosed with Panic Disorder. Panic attacks are unexpected, repeated, intense moments of fear and anxiety with physical sensations such as a racing heart or fast breathing.

Children often complain of nausea or tummy aches or other physical experiences like this. Panic and the physical sensations can be scary for young people and difficult for children to make sense of. We offer evidence-based therapy to treat panic and we offer parenting support to help you to help your child.

Specific phobias or fears

Children and young people may describe specific fears of phobias and common ones include a fear of dying, fear of spiders or dogs, fear of school. These can cause distress and disrupt normal life or special events like school trips, sleepovers, gap year travels and the move to independent living at university.

We offer evidence-based therapy to treat specific fears and phobias and we offer parenting support to help you to help your child.

Social Anxiety

Social anxiety focuses on an extreme worry about what people think of you and how you act in social interactions, being observed doing everyday things or interacting or performing in front of others such as doing a presentation or assembly. There is fear about being judged negatively or being rejected.

Children and young people may be unwilling to part from parents, try their best to avoid these situations, refuse to go to school or clubs, have headaches and tummy aches and distressed behaviours. It is not the same as shyness. It can really interfere with regular activities at home, at school and socially for a child, adolescent or young adult. We offer evidence-based therapy to treat social anxiety and can offer parenting support to help you to help your child.

Anxiety about Separation

Anxiety about being separated from a parent or carer is a usual part of your child’s development when they are young. However, if it persists or becomes very intense it may be something you would like help to manage. Some children find themselves growing up with increasing or excessive worries about leaving their parents or carers, they may fear being lost or fear something bad happening to them or to their loved ones.

These sorts of worries, fears and anxieties can interrupt everyday life, such as going to school or going to play dates or sleepovers. We offer evidence-based therapy to treat separation anxiety and can offer parenting support to help you to help your child.
