At CY&A Psychology, we offer evidence-based interventions and a thoughtful, compassionate space where adults can explore challenges, deepen self-understanding and create meaningful change.

Are you struggling at work? Unsure of what direction you want to take? Feeling burnt out?

Has University not worked out the way you expected? Is your emotional health limiting your experiences and enjoyment?

Are you noticing the same old patterns cropping up in your life, perhaps in relationships with partners, friends, colleagues?

Are you living with poor mental health because you don’t know what help you need or nothing has worked?

Are you a parent and looking for a therapist who understands parenting; its complexities and impact on mental health?

Our team of Clinical Psychologists and Psychotherapists are here to help you using evidence-based therapies, delivered by experienced practitioners in a sensitive, thoughtful, tailored way to suit you best.

What we offer

We draw on a range of evidence-based approaches and tailor therapy collaboratively based on your needs, preferences, and goals.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps you understand the links between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, and develop practical strategies to manage difficulties.

CBT can be helpful for:

  • Anxiety and panic
  • Low mood and depression
  • Obsessive–compulsive difficulties
  • Stress and overwhelm
  • Trauma and difficult experiences
  • Habit and behaviour change

Adult therapy and coaching

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy for processing traumatic or distressing life experiences that continue to affect the present. We also see it successfully used with OCD and Anxiety disorders.

EMDR may be helpful if:

  • Past experiences feel “stuck” or intrusive
  • You experience emotional reactivity, avoidance, or overwhelm
  • Trauma is impacting relationships, self-worth, or daily life

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT focuses on helping you live a meaningful life, even when difficult thoughts or feelings are present.

ACT supports:

  • Psychological flexibility
  • Values-based decision making
  • Reduced impact of anxiety and self-criticism
  • Greater self-compassion and resilience

Adult therapy and coaching

Comprehensive behavioural Intervention for Tics (CBIT)

CBIT is an evidence-based treatment for tic disorders and Tourette’s syndrome.

It focuses on:

  • Increasing awareness of tics
  • Learning alternative responses
  • Reducing the impact of tics on daily life

CBIT can be particularly helpful for adults who have lived with tics for many years without targeted support.

Psychotherapy

Our psychotherapy work offers space for deeper exploration of emotional patterns, relationships, identity, and life experiences.

This approach may suit you if you want:

  • Greater self-understanding
  • Support with long-standing emotional difficulties
  • Time and space to reflect and process

Coaching

Our coaching is psychologically informed and forward-focused.

Coaching can support you to:

  • Build confidence and direction
  • Manage ADHD-related challenges
  • Improve organisation, motivation, and follow-through
  • Navigate transitions and life changes

Coaching is not therapy, but it can be a powerful option for growth and change.

Working With Parents

We often see parents in their own right, not just as carers, but as people who also need support.

Parent-focused work may include:

  • Emotional support and validation
  • Managing stress, guilt, or burnout
  • Navigating complex family dynamics
  • Supporting a child or young adult while caring for yourself

How we work

Our work is collaborative, respectful, and paced carefully. We begin with an initial consultation to understand:

  • What is bringing you to therapy or coaching
  • Your goals and preferences
  • Which approach may be the best fit

We will always be honest if a different service or approach would be more suitable.

A little bit about us

CY&A Psychology is known for its work with children, adolescents and young adults. This focus reflects our belief in the importance of early and developmentally informed psychological support. At the same time, clinical psychology is a lifespan profession. We are proud of our particular depth of expertise in transitions, development, neurodivergence and family systems and we bring this same specialist lens into our work with adults. Some members of our team work extensively with adults in other NHS and private settings and bring this specialist experience directly into their work with adult clients at CY&A Psychology.

Our adult work is not separate from our core expertise, it is informed by the same developmental, relational, and neuro-affirming approach that underpins all of our work.

Adult clients are only seen by clinicians whose practice includes ongoing adult-focused work.
